What did you ask for? : During a job interview process, I asked for a compensation package that was 3 times more than what I was making at the time.
What did you receive? : I landed a job offer that was only very slightly less than what I asked for, but was more flexible in other ways. Incredibly , I ended up deciding to decline. The fact that I asked for and got what I wanted gave me the confidence to admit that, even though the role would have been lucrative, the culture was not right for me. Besides, I had just proved to myself "I'm worth it".
How did you feel? Did you believe it was already there? Did you allow it to show up?: It was definitely hard to ask for so much. Even though I know that men with my experience level would have totally asked for the same thing. It was such a big number that anyone would have raised their eyebrows. But, once I pressed send I was elated. That ask totally changed the conversation with the company I was talking to. It was incredible that I went from being terrified to ask for something, to deciding that *I* didn't even want it, and walking away. I walked away from the experience with a new sense of confidence and self worth.
